What are decodable texts? Simply put, decodable texts are texts where the words have been intentionally limited to specific phonics patterns.
These are used so students can practice decoding words with phonics patterns that they've already been taught.
Some decodable texts focus on a specific phonics pattern, like the SH digraph, for example. (But not all decodable texts have to have a single focus.)
Research shows that students need explicit, systematic phonics instruction with lots of in-context practice.
Decodable texts provide opportunities for that in-context practice!
