Picture this...

Your students are reading. One student comes across the word "doctor," and asks: "Why doesn't the or part say /or/, like in fork?"

You pause to think, but you can't come up with a good answer. Your teacher prep program didn't cover spelling and phonics rules like this.

And this isn't the first time this has happened...

Your students ask you questions like this all the time...and you're not sure how to answer them. And that's pretty embarrassing, because you're supposed to be the "expert" who's teaching them reading and writing!

Sound familiar? If you've been feeling a little (or a lot) less than an expert on the rules of English...

Then you're going to love this course!

If you currently feel like your knowledge in this area is lacking...it's not your fault!

The truth is: Most of us were never taught these rules (not in college or even grad school)!

Over the years, we've just memorized how to spell certain words, but we really don't know the "why" behind why words are spelled the way they are.

As a teacher, you deserve to have the background knowledge you need to successfully teach your students how to spell.

"Master the Rules of English Phonics" will give you the in-depth knowledge you need to confidently teach these skills to your students!

The course covers tons of tricky rules and tidbits, like...

🤯 The digraph spelling "ch" actually has 3 sounds: /ch/, /sh/, and /k/. If you're working with Kindergarten or 1st grade students, focus on the /ch/ sound first, but be ready to explain the other 2 sounds as they come up in context.

🤯 In some words, we drop the silent e when adding a suffix at the end, like when "take" becomes "taking." But sometimes we don't drop the silent e, because doing so would change a soft g or c to a hard sound. Example: "courage" becomes "courageous."

🤯 Certain sounds have the same manner and place of articulation - but they differ in whether or not they are voiced. (Example: /b/ and /p/) This can result in some students mispronouncing or confusing them!

You may be thinking, "Wow! I didn't know all these rules!"

When you enroll in the course, you'll learn so many more rules like these.

You'll also learn when it's developmentally appropriate to teach students these rules. (Because information like this isn't helpful unless you know exactly how and when to apply it in the classroom!)

You'll finish the course feeling confident and empowered in your teacher knowledge AND your ability to help students master these rules and exceptions to the rules!

Now, maybe you're wondering..."This sounds great, but I'm busy...will I have time for this?"

That's a fair question!

The good news: this course is self-paced and specially designed to work for busy teachers (more on that in a minute).

But beyond that:

What if you don't make time to do this learning?

The next time a student asks why a word is spelled a certain way, you'll have to tell them:
"That's just the way that it is - English is strange..." or maybe
"I don't know; I'll have to look it up later."

Maybe you'll continue saving hundreds of social media posts about the rules of English, trying to piece it all together on your own.

Meanwhile, your students are confused...they're still struggling with spelling...and they're still making some of the same decoding mistakes over and over again.

Not good, right?

Our students deserve expert teachers who can explain the nuances of the language they're teaching.

Make a difference in their literacy growth by developing the expertise you need!

Here's how this course makes it easy to do that:

>> When you enroll in the course, you'll have lifetime access, which means you can access the course whenever you'd like (now, next week, next month, over summer break, or even next year!).

>> The course includes short, prerecorded videos on tons of spelling and phonics rules. You can watch the videos when you have a few minutes here or there, and you can easily skip to a specific topic if you're short on time.

As most teachers, I'm busy, so I truly appreciate having access to a course that is well-organized, very clear, no-fluff and to the point.

I'm also happy and validated to have realized some of the practices I've used for years are not all bad. I need to make adjustments in some areas, and the videos have helped me figure out where to improve and how.

I think there are a lot of self-proclaimed SoR "experts" on social media who don't really know what they're talking about, but Alison is not one of them—she's the real deal!
