Hi, I'm your host,
Alison Ryan, M.Ed., C-SLDS.
Since 2005, I’ve worked in schools in a variety of roles including classroom teacher, reading interventionist, reading specialist, and Director of Curriculum & Instruction. Along the way, I’ve earned my master’s degree in literacy leadership, become certified in Structured Literacy as a Dyslexia Specialist, received an ESL endorsement, and trained in the Orton-Gillingham method.
With extensive experience as a classroom teacher and Reading Specialist, I've seen firsthand the powerful impact of the centers system and activities I'll share in this webinar. I’ve used these strategies for nearly two decades—even in a class with students whose skills ranged from Kindergarten to 6th grade—so I know it works.
Join me and let’s ditch the stress around getting students to work independently!

"I just want to say thank you for sharing your knowledge on how to simplify literacy centers! I have been working on organizing my classroom materials, games, and files this week based on your webinar information. With your help, I have had huge success organizing all of my materials and files. It is a relief knowing that everything is categorized and easy to find."

"I’ve been to several of her virtual classes. I teach first grade, and I think they’re absolutely awesome. I have been teaching for 37 years, but every time I watch her it helps me refresh and review what we’re teaching and how all of this works together."
Does this sound familiar?
It's 10am on a Thursday, time to pull your first small group of the
day.
You remind the rest of the kids what they should be working on in
centers, and you call your small group over to the table.
Finally, you can focus on helping this group! They're behind, and
they need all the support you can give them.
But then the interruptions start.
"I don't know what to do." "She's bothering me." "Is this right?"
One tap on your shoulder becomes ten, and suddenly the small group you've been trying to reach all week didn't get what they needed. Again.
You wonder if it's even possible to get K-2 students to truly work on their own — or if the chaos is just… part of the job.
If you can relate, this webinar is for you.
In just one hour, I'll walk you through my 5-part system for building real student independence — so your independent work time actually works. You'll learn how to prevent the chaos before it starts, stop the constant interruptions, and make sure the students who aren't sitting with you are still getting something meaningful out of their time.
All of this WITHOUT creating extra work for yourself!
Whether last year felt like a struggle or you just want to start this year with a stronger plan...
This webinar is your first step toward that.
Can’t wait to see you there,
- Alison
